Are you worried that you have a clogged plumbing vent? Would you even know how to tell if your plumbing vent was clogged?
Well, if you’re wondering these things, then you are not alone!
Most people are not aware of the key signs of a clogged plumbing vent. But, nonetheless, these signs are absolutely critical for home maintenance.
So, if you want to know how to tell if plumbing vent is clogged, read on for these signs and tips!
1. Bad Smells
Perhaps the first sign that you have a clogged plumbing vent is that there is a very bad smell in the air. This is basically a sewerage smell.
However, it can be hard to work out if the vent is clogged or whether this smell is being caused by a number of other factors.
So, that’s one of the first signs your plumbing vent is clogged, but it’s not enough to identify the issue on its own.
2. Gurgling Sounds
If you have a plumbing vent pipe clogged, there is also a good chance that you will hear some gurgling sounds throughout your home. These sounds may come from your sinks or toilets.
When you hear these sounds, it means that air is slowly being released as water tries to pass through the clogged pipe.
Can plumbing vents get clogged just like drains can? Yes!
You may mistake a clogged plumbing vent for a simple drain blockage. But if the gurgling does not go away, you may have a deeper issue.
3. Toilet Overflow
Another key sign of a clogged vent is toilet overflow. This is where the water in your toilet bowl backs up and won’t recede when flushed.
This can be quite annoying, particularly as it makes the toilet unusable. So, if you get into this situation, make sure you don’t go tempting fate by trying to flush the toilet and hope that everything goes away.
Once again, though, an overflowing toilet is not always a sign of a clogged plumbing vent. So, you need to take all of the signs as a whole to work out the likelihood that you have a clog in your plumbing vent.
4. Water Not Draining Properly
If your drains aren’t getting rid of water as quickly as they should be, this could also be a sign of a clogged vent. Once again, though, this may be a simple drain blockage.
So, you can try and deal with the issue first by using drain unblocking products or simply using a plunger. However, if the blockage doesn’t go away, you may have a problem deeper down in the plumbing vent.
Be Cautious with a Clogged Plumbing Vent
Now you have the key signs to look for when working out if you have a clogged plumbing vent.
But as a last piece of advice, make sure you tread cautiously when you start to see these signs. Often, people overlook these plumbing issues as symptoms of a minor issue. As such, they can get into more serious trouble with overflowing drains and basins.
So, watch for these signs and get help if you need it!
