Signs of a Clogged Drain

  1. Water pools around your feet when you shower.
    2. Water goes slowly down your bathroom or kitchen sink.
    3. Your bathroom has started to stink.

Home Remedies for Unclogging Your Drain

Don’t wait until your drain is clogged to clean it! For best results and to avoid damage to your pipes, clear out your drains at least once a month using the following home remedies.

You will need:

  • Water
  • Salt
  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • A Wire Hanger

Method #1: Using Hot Water

The easiest and least expensive method for unclogging your drain is by using hot boiling water. Simply boil water, pour it over the drain and the water will take the gunk down with it, clearing up your drain. To make this method even more effective, first, pour ½ cup of salt down the drain and then proceed to pour hot water over it. If it doesn’t work in one go, try pouring boiled water a few more times. Most blockages will be cleared up instantly.

Method #2: Using a Wire Hanger

Take a wire hanger, straighten it out, and form a hook with one end. Then fish out the gross buildup of hair and gunk out of the drain. Run clean water over it when you’re done and voila! You’ve unclogged your drain.

Method #3: Using Baking Soda & Salt or Baking Soda & Vinegar

Another home remedy using ingredients that are already available in your kitchen is to take equal amounts of either baking soda and salt, or baking soda and vinegar. Toss them down the drain, wait for about 15 minutes and then pour boiling water on top. The chemical reaction that occurs should help clear up any gunk that was blocking your drain.
